These are a series of quick animations in which CG objects are composited into 2D photos while maintaining a sense of space and lighting consistent with the photo.
This is done by creating a copy of the photo and editing it as if all of the surfaces are cast in shadow. The photo's geometry gets roughly recreated in 3D and lit in a way that matches the photo. The CG object is animated and shadow maps are rendered out using this scene. These shadow renders are used as masks for the shadow images created. Any reflective and refractive surfaces are also rendered out to be composited into the still image.
