In VIST405, seniors, juniors, and sophomores worked together on a single 10-second animated short. We were given the task to pick a style of art to influence the artistic direction of our project.
Inspired by works like African Sonata by Vladimir Kush, our group was drawn to surrealism and how it reflects that of our subconscious mind. As such, we strove to create a dream-like environment inhabited by some unsettling creatures.

Lighting Progress
My main role in the project was setting the mood of this dream-like scene through the use of lighting and compositing. Below is a short clip showing the process of the lighting.
The above image is a environment sphere map I created as the base of our lighting. The map also serves as the background of the animation but is barely visible in the final animation. The following link leads to a 360 view of the environment map. (For best results, view on a tablet or phone!)
