This piece was created for my Digital Painting Final. The project was to create a Sci-fi/Fantasy landscape painting in a 48x18 format. I decided to stick on the fantasy side since I have always loved the possibilities that fantasy worlds offer.
Painting Process
I started this painting with a rough sketch of where I wanted everything to be. I used different color pencils to differentiate between the different 'layers' of the image.
Next I did a rough tonal study to further plan the composition followed by rough colors placed ontop of the study.
After cleaning up the blocked colors I began to paint in textures and initial lighting.
The final part of the process was to detail in the lighting and add atmospheric perspective.
